Build strength, tone lean muscle and enjoy a deep, steady burn with this 45-minute upper body workout using hand weights, a long Pilates band and a chair for support. This controlled, low-impact session blends Pilates cardio sculpt with traditional strength training to target the arms, shoulders, back, chest and triceps from every angle.
You’ll start with a 20-minute standing Pilates cardio sculpt segment using light hand weights to warm the body, elevate the heart rate and engage the core and lower body through stability-based movements. This section focuses on posture, balance and long, controlled arm work for a gentle but effective burn.
Next, move to a chair and long Pilates band for targeted upper-body toning. This segment includes arm, shoulder and back exercises with plenty of angle changes and mobility-focused movements to improve range of motion while sculpting long, lean arms.
The workout then progresses into moderate weighted strength work using dumbbells (I use 3.5kg / 8lb and 2.5kg / 5lb). Expect drop-set style combinations, slower controlled reps and some lower-body engagement to increase intensity and muscle fatigue.
Finish on the mat with triceps-focused exercises, push-up variations and a full upper-body stretch to release tension and restore mobility.

What is Barlates Body Blitz: Barlates is a fusion style workout that borrows from pilates, barre, ballet, yoga and more traditional cardio and toning. The idea was to create a workout, which flows seamlessly from one move into the next using the principles of isotension and high repetitions to build long, lean muscles. By using a lighter weight with high repetitions the exercises are designed to target all of those underused smaller muscle groups resulting in a defined, lengthened dancer's physique. This is a real girls workout in the sense that it is fun and feminine, but don't get me wrong it is still super intense with a big burn factor! The workouts are designed to be mixed and matched with an array of 20-30 minute upper body, lower body, abdominal and total body workouts that can be strung together for a longer session or done individually if you are short on time.
